Via Ferrata

“Experience takes many of the things we already intuitively know, and give us conviction.”

- Jim Lent -

How would you like to experience the adventure of a via ferrata? Via ferrata is an Italian word for “iron road”.  It is a mountain route, which is equipped with anchored cables, metal rungs, ladders and bridges. The first via ferratas were built in the Dolomite mountain region of Italy during the First World War. They were mainly used to aid the movement of mountain infantry.

Hikers and climbers can follow via ferratas without needing to use their own ropes and belays, and without the risks associated with unprotected scrambling and climbing.  “Ferratists” wear a climbing harness that has a lanyard consisting of two short ropes with carabiners, which allow them to clip onto the thick cables, ladders, steps, or bridges to prevent falls.

The via ferrata that Paramount Guides uses is located in Nordegg (3 Hours from Calgary or Edmonton / 2 Hours and 40 Minutes from Banff)
