Via Ferrata
“Experience takes many of the things we already intuitively know, and give us conviction.”
- Jim Lent -
Paramount Guides now offers two incredible Via Ferrata experiences: our original routes near Nordegg, and, through our new partnership with Mt. Norquay, access to five additional routes right in Banff National Park. Whether you're looking for a rugged alpine outing or a more accessible adventure close to town, we have options for every level of experience.
What is a Via Ferrata?
Via Ferrata (Vie Ferrate in plural) is an Italian term meaning "Iron Road." These protected mountain routes are equipped with fixed steel cables, ladders, rungs, and suspension bridges to help adventurers safely navigate steep, exposed terrain. Originally developed in the Dolomites during World War I to aid troop movement across the mountains, today Via Ferratas offer a safe and exhilarating way to explore alpine environments.
Participants wear a climbing harness connected to a specialized lanyard system with carabiners, allowing them to remain clipped to the safety cable at all times, minimizing risk while maximizing adventure.
