Avalanche Canada supports the delivery of Avalanche Skills Training to underage students with the following provisos:
The instructor has reasonably determined that the student is mature enough to assimilate the course material
The instructor has obtained informed consent from the student’s parents or legal guardian. (A legal guardian is not a friend or relative who is
on the course with the student. A legal guardian is someone who has been appointed by the courts as a legal substitute for a parent.)
That the terrain used for AST courses with minors is considered carefully and that students are not placed at undue risk.
This being said, the Avalanche Skills Training program (including administrative system, curriculum, and teaching materials) has been developed with adult learners in mind. The system of waivers that help to ensure AST students understand the nature of the risks they are exposing themselves to when they take an AST course are also designed for adults who are fully prepared to take responsibility for their actions.
As such If you are a minor, -under the age of 18 or 19 depending on where do you live - a parent or guardian needs to sign a copy of the informed consent, and youth waiver, both of which are display below before making any payment for any of our programs.
